  • New Harvest Matcha

Only available during this time of year, New Harvest Matcha allows you to savour the flavour of freshly picked tea leaves. New Harvest Matcha is distinctive in that it allows you to savour the flavour that is unique to each year’s new harvest, unlike our matcha offerings available throughout the year, each of which has its own consistent flavour that is created by blending, through a process in which the tea leaves are picked, immediately processed, and then rested through the summer to mature. Being able to enjoy the different tastes of each year’s harvest is one of the true joys of this matcha. For example, 2024’s New Harvest Matcha possessed wonderful sweetness, while 2025’s matcha had mellow sweetness and slight bitterness.

The sweet, light taste of summer
A seasonal flavour only available now

New Harvest Matcha 2026 is characterized by a refreshingly light taste. The first thing that catches your eye is the colour. Its bright, vivid green colour brings to mind tea fields in spring awash in sunlight. With each sip, the palate is bathed in rich sweetness, then enveloped in shincha's characteristic verdant fragrance. This matcha has a light, mild taste that is easy to drink, even by people new to drinking matcha straight.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to savour this seasonal flavour that is only available now.

"This matcha is free of bitterness and astringency, and has an aftertaste full of refreshing fragrance and umami. This year's New Harvest Matcha has the mild characteristics of shincha created from a crop that was blessed with good weather. The light sweetness and fragrance of New Harvest Matcha contrasts with the weighty umami, fragrance, and denser taste of our regular matcha. Try this New Harvest Matcha, and savour the difference."
Yagi, Inspection Team

"This year's New Harvest Matcha is very easy to drink, with a wonderful, light taste. The invigorating taste of shincha comes out in its rich sweetness and refreshing aftertaste. It’s a well-rounded, mellow matcha that I could keep drinking, one cup after another."
Miyata, Inspection Team

How/when to enjoy it?

I enjoy this light, easy-to-drink New Harvest Matcha throughout the day, both at home and when I’m out and about. You can bring out sweetness and umami as well as the crisp, slight bitterness of a typical shincha by whisking it with colder water, tweaking the temperature by using water at room temperature or chilled water. I have it as my morning matcha to wake me up, or at the beginning of a week I want to start off in a relaxing way.

I drink it as basic usucha when I relax in the afternoon, enjoying its fresh sweetness and mild taste. And when prepared with milk to create matcha latte, the matcha and milk harmonize, producing a flavour that is even more mellow. It’s a perfect matcha for teatime with family or friends.

How do Ippodo staff enjoy it?

I like preparing it as Shaken Matcha when I want to savour its sweetness in a more casual way. All I have to do is put the matcha and chilled water in my bottle or flask (2g of matcha and 200 ml of chilled water), and then shake it in order to enjoy the fresh taste of New Harvest Matcha!

This was the best matcha I’ve ever had. I’m an everyday matcha drinker that drinks it as an usucha over ice with no sweetener. It wish I could get more!!!!!! I purchased from the US website .
