Each year we are excited to taste shincha, our special release of freshly harvested sencha tea. Its youthful energy is distinct from the mature character of our regular sencha brands.
Only a limited quantity of shincha is produced, and we sell out every year, so pre-order to secure your taste of this special tea.

What teas are in in this set?

This set includes two premium sencha green teas, selected by Ippodo as an engaging comparison.

Fresh New Harvest: Shincha is a limited sencha tea that is released right after harvest with no resting process. It has a vibrant character with an amazingly fresh fragrance, with brilliant umami and eye-opening greenness. Fans delight in the nuances in this tea’s flavour, which change year-to-year depending on the climate in the regions.

Classic and Mature: Kumpu is a regular Ippodo sencha. Since it has been rested after harvest, it has a more mature, more developed taste. An elegant full-bodied blend with umami, sweetness, and a delicate, lingering aftertaste.

How to enjoy it?

Brew them side-by-side to compare and contrast the regular sencha Kumpu with new sencha Shincha. Or, enjoy them one-at-a-time, at your own pace.
Pairing suggestions: Match shincha’s bright energy with your favourite fresh seasonal fruits. Pair Kumpu's delicate umami with pastries or wagashi (Japanese confections) that are not-too-sweet.
