Delightful Holidays with Ippodo
- Obukucha, a Favourite Choice for the Season -
Obukucha is a special genmaicha green tea that is made available every year for the holidays.
Combining roasted rice and specially-selected green tea leaves, this Ippodo favourite has a pleasant toasty fragrance and a light, crisp aftertaste.
Compared to the regular genmaicha, Obukucha uses less roasted rice and higher-quality green tea leaves, giving us a softer aroma and a more elegant taste in the cup.
It’s a versatile tea and a universal favourite, so we recommend serving it with lunch or at tea time while gathered with friends and family this season.

What Makes Obukucha Special?
The story of Obukucha, which means "Good Fortune Tea," began over 1000 years ago.
In the 10th century, an epidemic spread through Kyoto, and a Buddhist monk passed out tea to the public to relieve suffering. It is said the emperor began holding an annual ritual of drinking tea at New Year's to pray for peace and good fortune among the people.
Today, the tradition lives on, and many people drink Obukucha with family during New Year's holidays. Join in the tradition yourself, and celebrate the arrival of a new year with a delicious cup of Obukucha!
