Great for gift-giving during the New Year period!
Includes traditional holiday tea and gift bags!

Obukucha is a convenient tea to stock up on, both for personal use and to hand out to people. Traditionally drunk for good luck during the New Year period, it makes a great holiday gift. This set includes bags that can be used when presenting it as the gift.

What kind of gift is it?

When the New Year arrives, it’s time for Obukucha! The light flavour means that nearly everyone likes it. It's useful as a gift for someone with unknown preferences. As a present, it has the additional merit of conveying your wishes for good health. These compact 100g bags make particularly good small gifts for passing out during the year-end and New Year period.

How does it taste?

This tea has a light but refined flavour, and a refreshing fragrance combined with a slight aroma of roasted rice.

How/when to enjoy it?

As soon as you get up, prepare piping hot Obukucha to bring out the fragrance and aroma. It's a good tea for waking you up. The flavour doesn't linger long, so the tea does a great job in a supporting role for any meal. It's the first tea that comes to mind at this time of year, regardless of the occasion.

Who do Ippodo staff give it to?

This set is very useful as a small gift to take when invited to a gathering towards the end of the year. Children who don't like bitter or sharp drinks will still enjoy these teas. It's a good choice for times when families get together.

  • What is Obukucha?

An auspicious tea for celebrating the New Year. Its roots go back over a millennium to Kyoto in the Heian Period. The type of tea used for obukucha differs according to the tea merchant's own traditions. Ippodo's Obukucha (Good Fortune Tea) is a special blend of genmaicha. It uses higher grade green tea leaves and a smaller proportion of roasted rice than our year-round Genmaicha to bring out the flavour of the leaves.
