Items: Newly Redesigned Matcha Packaging
The packaging for our seven regular matcha brands is switching from cans to boxes on October 1, 2025.
Colouring has been added to intuitively indicate the level of umami and flavour, while carefully retaining the motifs in the label details—the tea jar, the flowers of the tea plant, and the Ippodo seal. This allows customers to grasp the difference in flavour the moment they hold the package in their hands.
Designed to convey the flavour of the matcha before it is tasted
The new packaging appropriately expresses the differences in flavour for these seven distinctive matcha brands—rich, balanced, and light.
The rich types are for preparing thick matcha with an abundance of sweetness and umami flavour. The balanced types are for preparing matcha with just the right balance of sweetness and sharpness. The light types are for preparing matcha that is light and refreshing. This difference is now reflected in the packaging.
The colouring of the packaging gradually gets lighter as it ranges from the chic colour used for the rich types to the lightest colour used for the light types. Gold foil has also been added to the packaging used for the rich types of matcha.
Rendered in gold foil to convey a three-dimensional feel and sense of depth.
